This stream focuses on Classical Ballet. Students balance daily dance training with academics for an in-depth cross-disciplinary education. In addition to ballet, students learn Modern and other forms of dance, gaining stage experience through the many performance opportunities.
The world-renowned Vaganova method training and personal attention from teachers help students who are exploring Dance or those hoping to dance professionally. Students have the option of taking college preparatory courses or University Preparation courses for academic credits (we follow the Ontario Minstry of Education Curriculum). High school ballet and dance courses are part of secondary credits that count towards OSSD. In addition, Students are required to take Drama classes. They will gain stage experience through Hamilton Ballet Company productions — where they will dance with Hamilton City Ballet students and dancers from across the GTA — but also through community projects and Hamilton Academy’s collaborations with partner institutions (professional productions). After grade 12, our students can continue training with Hamilton Academy’s Professional Development Program.
*Elementary Students: Streams do not apply to elementary-level students at the Academy. Gr. 3-8 students are taught by subject specialists who are also qualified to teach at the secondary level. Faculty members offer work that meets the individualized needs of each student. Teachers help students in going beyond course material, both in and outside of the classroom, for a comprehensive understanding of the enriched curriculum components and their real life applications. In addition to the full academic curriculum, students are taking courses in performing arts, such as Dance, Drama, Music, and Vocal. Students can choose to alter the amount of dance training they receive. Students will be prepared for high school with a solid foundation in inquiry-based learning and experience in both performing and visual arts.
